1. Confirmed outbreaks of Koi Herpesvirus Disease
Confirmed Designation / Designated Area Orders restrict the movement of any live fish, including their eggs and gametes, into, out of or within the designated area without the prior written consent of the Fish Health Inspectorate at Cefas. Under the requirements of the designation fisheries are directed to either, establish and maintain on-site facilities for the disinfection of angling equipment at all access points or, to provide anglers with nets, mats and slings for exclusive use on the affected fisheries. Anglers must comply with these requirements.

3. KHV is now a notifiable disease
The Diseases of Fish (England and Wales) Order 2007 (SI 2007 No.864), which came into force on 6 April 2007, makes it a legal obligation for any person, including fish farmers or their staff, fish dealers and fish keepers to notify the Fish Health Inspectorate if they suspect that fish may be infected with KHV (Koi Herpes Virus) Disease. KHV (Koi Herpesvirus or CyHV-3) is a double stranded DNA virus belonging to the virus family Herpesviridae (herpes virus). It is a highly contagious disease and can cause 80-100% mortality in affected populations.
